“We can have classes with students from Tsinghua University!”
During the period of epidemic prevention and control, while successfully carrying out the teaching work of various courses in the platforms of Super Star (Learning Pass), Rain Classroom and Tencent Conference in an orderly manner, our college successfully docked with the course “Mechanics of Materials” of Tsinghua University under the promotion of the Academic Affairs Office and Faculty Development Center of Jilin University, and officially became its “Clone Class”. 60 students of College of Construction Engineering really entered the “Tsinghua Classroom” and experienced the high-quality educational resources of Tsinghua University.
Chen Yuheng, a 2020 undergraduate student, said, “I am honored to have the opportunity to attend classes with Tsinghua University students through the shared course. The teacher’s classes are lively and interesting, yet rigorous. Whenever we entered a new chapter, the teacher often introduced the theoretical knowledge we were going to learn from common things in life, and then presented the complete knowledge through rigorous theoretical derivation from the basic theory. This kind of in-depth lecture format enables us to think about it after the class, which unconsciously improves our understanding of the course.”
Jingming Li, a 2020 undergraduate student, said: “I am honored to have the opportunity to attend classes with Tsinghua students, share the course resources of famous teachers, and feel the learning atmosphere of outstanding students. The lecturer’s in-depth and concrete way of teaching gave me the real experience of “seeking the origin, then understanding”, which gave me a new and deeper understanding of the course. Mr. Yin’s repeated emphasis on academic objectivity has also strengthened my original intention of academic research.”
The students expressed that “during the epidemic, we will live up to our reputation, study hard and improve ourselves, and thank Tsinghua University teachers for their hard work and the university for providing a platform to provide students with quality educational resources, so that students have the opportunity to attend classes with Tsinghua students, which will be a lifelong experience!”
In addition, in order to improve the classroom teaching level of teachers in the College at the stage of epidemic prevention and control, enhance the quality of undergraduate education teaching and promote teachers' educational development, the College organized teachers to participate in online observation and learning of benchmark courses. Through the observation and learning, we experienced the rigorous, standardized and wonderful teaching paradigm of Tsinghua teachers, the use of modern teaching methods, and the active teaching-learning classroom interaction, which are important references for our online teaching.
The implementation of the “Clone Class” has created a new model of inter-campus course sharing and opened up a new path for sharing high-quality teaching resources. At the same time, it gave students from Jilin University the opportunity and platform to enter the “Tsinghua classroom”. Through this new model, the students’ learning enthusiasm and sense of achievement under the epidemic have been enhanced, and the teachers of Jilin University have also improved their teaching and education level.
