On November 2, 2024, the College of Construction Engineering of Jilin University successfully held the Series Activities (I) of the Sub-forum on Cutting-edge Technologies of Ice Layer Drilling and Underground Resource Drilling and Mining of the 2024 International Conference on Industry-University-Research-Application Cooperation (Changchun). In collaboration with China University of Geosciences (Beijing), this event specially invited Professor Chisliakov and Researcher Lykov from Saint Petersburg Mining University in Russia to the college for academic exchanges, aiming to promote international cooperation and facilitate the development of academics and technologies.
The meeting was presided over by Professor Cao Pinlu, Associate Dean of the College. In his welcome speech, Professor Cao Pinlu extended a warm welcome to the Russian experts who came from afar and expressed great anticipation for the upcoming cooperation. He emphasized that international cooperation is an important way to drive academic innovation and technological progress, and hoped that through this conference, in-depth exchanges and cooperation among all parties in the field of underground resource drilling could be promoted. Lin Fang, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation and Exchange Office of China University of Geosciences, Professor-level Senior Engineer Liu Sanyi, Director of the Council of the "Zhang Zupei Award and Aid Fund for Prospecting Engineering" of Jilin University, Professor Liu Baochang, Head of the Department of Survey Engineering of the College, Professor Chen Chen, and Professor Markov, a foreign professor of the college, as well as many other teachers and students of the college attended this sub-forum. The participants jointly witnessed the opening of this international academic forum and expected that through this exchange, it could bring new inspiration and motivation to the college's international cooperation and exchanges as well as scientific research work.
At this sub-forum event, Professor Chisliakov and Researcher Lykov presented three in-depth academic reports to the teachers and students of the college. First, they reviewed the history of the ultra-deep drilling project during the Soviet era and shared the technical challenges encountered during the project's initiation and implementation. These experiences are of great value for deepening the understanding of the Earth's deep structure and promoting the development of drilling technologies. Then, the experts introduced in detail the drilling grouting technology widely applied in Russia, emphasizing its crucial role in enhancing the waterproofness, stability, and safety of underground structures, which is of vital importance for the environmental protection and economic benefits of tunnels and mines. Finally, they shared the core achievements of the Baikal Drilling Project. Through drilling in different geological structures of Lake Baikal, valuable paleoclimatic and geological data were obtained, providing precious references for the study of paleoclimatic changes in Asia and even globally. These reports not only provided the participants with cutting-edge academic information but also opened up new ideas for the college's future research directions.
The successful holding of this sub-forum has strengthened the connection between the College of Construction Engineering of Jilin University and the international academic community, and also provided a precious learning and communication platform for the teachers and students of the college. The college will continue to be committed to promoting international cooperation, facilitating academic research and technological innovation, and making greater contributions to the country's resource exploration and development cause.
