In order to carry out research on the subglacial geological environment in the East Antarctic Rathman Hills region, the University has signed a cooperation agreement on joint Antarctic scientific expeditions with the Russian Scientific Research Institute of Oceanic and Geological Mineral Resources, the Russian Antarctic Expedition and the China University of Geosciences (Beijing). This year, with the research objectives of analyzing the origin of magnetic anomalies in the Emory Linear Tectonic Zone, evaluating the impact of the subglacial geological environment on the material balance of the East Antarctic Ice Sheet, and exploring the laws of the East Antarctic Ice Sheet's evolution, it is proposed to jointly carry out Antarctic deep-ice and subglacial bedrock core drilling at a distance of 25-30 km from the Zhongshan Station by using the university's independently-developed polar deep ice and subglacial bedrock drilling equipment with no drilling rods, which was successfully obtained by China's deep ice in 2019. China's first under-ice bedrock sample was successfully obtained in Antarctica in 2019.

The joint Antarctic expedition was led by Professor Zhang Nan and went to Antarctica for the first time on the Russian research vessel Fedorov. At 9:00 a.m. on November 14th, our institute trampled on Zhang Nan, Gong Da and Liu Yunchen, and the relevant leaders of the institute team members, representatives of the faculty and students from the Department of Surveying Engineering and the Institute of Polar Science and Engineering attended the farewell meeting, which was presided over by Vice President Wu Xinming. At the meeting, Zhang Nan made a report on the work of the team on behalf of the expedition team, Clerical Secretary Yi Changtao and President Guo Wei made speeches on behalf of the institute, and representatives of the faculty and students expressed their deepest blessing for the members of the team, and at the end of the meeting, the flag of the institute was conferred to the expedition team by President Guo Wei on behalf of the institute.

The members of the Antarctic scientific research team of our academy will depart from Changchun today and arrive at the South Pole by ship after passing through Cape Town, South Africa, and are scheduled to return to the country on 28th March, 2024, which will last a total of 136 days. This is also the 9th time for teachers and students of our academy to go to Antarctica to take part in the scientific research mission, and the 5th time to take part in the international joint scientific research. Each separation is the prelude to the meeting, and the 3 heroes will bring the blessings of teachers and students of the whole academy to move forward and create another brilliant future.
