On September 30th, Jiang Zhiying, secretary of the Party Committee of the university, went to the College of Construction Engineering to conduct research on implementing the spirit of the 15th Party Congress of the university, solidly promoting the construction of “Three Major Projects”, maintaining campus safety and stability, and soliciting opinions and suggestions on the university’s efforts to carry out the “Organ Management Service Effectiveness Improvement Tackling Action” of the school. Jiang Zhiying stressed the need to thoroughly implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important statements on higher education and scientific and technological innovation, adhere to the world’s scientific and technological frontiers and national critical demands, give full advantage to the “soil” of geology, focus on top research directions, gather first-class faculty, build first-class disciplines, cultivate first-class talents and produce first-class outcomes, and welcome the victory of the 20th Party Congress with practical actions.
In the conference room of the college, Jiang Zhiying exchanged talks with the leadership team and teacher representatives of the College of Construction Engineering. On behalf of the university and President Zhang Xi, Jiang Zhiying sent his sincere respect and cordial greetings to all teachers and students in the college. Jiang Zhiying pointed out that the College of Construction Engineering has a glorious tradition and profound heritage. Over the past 70 years, generations of people in the College of Construction Engineering have worked hard and strived to train a large number of outstanding talents for the development of China’s geological engineering industry, and have made a large number of high-level research outcomes. In recent years, the College has taken the initiative to aim at the forefront of the world’s science and technology, actively participated in major projects such as the “China Antarctic Kunlun Station Deep Ice Core Drilling Scientific Project” and independently developed the “Crust I” 10,000-meter drilling rig, which has injected strong power to promote high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and contributed to the strength of the University of Jilin.
Jiang Zhiying stressed that, first, we should adhere to the original intention of cultivating people, grasp the direction of training, and improve the ability to educate talents. Focus on cultivating the new talents of the times, actively promote teaching and curriculum reform and innovation, build a more diversified platform for students, create a broader space, guide students from different levels, cultivate students from different perspectives, train students from different aspects, so that students can learn real knowledge and master real skills on campus, and develop a “steel and iron bones” to serve development. Secondly, we should clarify the focus of work, promote internal development and enhance the level of discipline construction. Continuously enhance the original innovation ability, strive to tackle the key core technology, and strive to make the college’s traditional advantageous disciplines stronger, the national strategic urgent disciplines more refined, and the emerging cross-fertilization disciplines more solid, and strive to achieve more and better scientific research results and technological breakthroughs, to build the brand of College of Construction Engineering of JLU and make the contribution of College of Construction Engineering of JLU. Thirdly, we should insist on attracting and educating, build a strong faculty and solidify the foundation of future development. Make great efforts in the construction of the talent team, attract more talents to choose to stay in JLU and in Jilin, and create a good talent ecosystem; make full use of the cluster advantage of the platform to attract more top talents, high talents and young talents from home and abroad to innovate and start up in JLU; fully stimulate the vitality of the project to gather talents, gather talents with the project, carry the project with talents, and inject new vitality for the high-quality development of the discipline. Fourth, we should focus on the key tasks, actively integrate into the overall situation, and strive to show our commitment.
