The 281st "Shuangqing Forum" was held in Beijing from April 22 to 23, 2021. It was jointly organized by the Department of Earth Sciences, Department of Engineering and Material Sciences, Department of Interdisciplinary Sciences, and Policy Bureau of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and hosted by the Research Institute of Petroleum Exploration and Development (RIPED). The theme of the forum is "Scientific questions and Key Technologies for Enrichment and In-situ Conversion of Low-Medium-Mature Continental Shale Oil". It was co-chaired by Academician Zhao Wenzhi of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Academician Zhao Yangsheng of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Academician Li Gensheng of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Nineteen academicians and more than 100 experts and scholars from more than 20 domestic universities, research institutes and enterprises in related fields were invited to attend the forum.

Prof. Sun Youhong, part-time professor of the National-Local Joint Engineering Laboratory of In-situ Conversion, Drilling and Exploration Technology for Oil Shale, and Prof. Guo Wei, Associate Prof. Li Qiang, Deng Sunhua, Wang Yuan and Zhu Chaofan were invited to attend the conference. Prof. Sun Youhong gave a keynote speech on Technology Challenges and Response Strategies for In-situ Conversion of Low-Medium Maturity Shale Oil. Prof. Guo Wei gave a speech on the scientific problems and key problems to be solved in the field of in-situ conversion of medium-low-maturity shale oil. Associate Prof. Li Qiang introduced the progress of the pilot test of in-situ conversion of oil shale carried out in Fuyu by our College. The experts at the forum recognized the scientific problems and constructive suggestions put forward by the faculty of our College about medium-low-maturity shale oil and in-situ conversion of oil shale.

The "Shuangqing Forum" is a high-level academic strategic seminar organized by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Based on the synergy and cross research between different disciplines and academic departments, this forum aims to gather up the scientific problems on enrichment and in-situ conversion of medium-low-maturity shale oil in land facies, determine some major basic scientific problems of interdisciplinary and integration, and discuss the key funding programs.
