MOUs (Memorandum of Understanding) were signed with the Institute of Geography of Russian Academy of Science and the Faculty of Geography of Lomonosov Moscow State University. On August 21, 2021, led by Professor Alexey Markov of the Polar Center, College of Construction Engineering signed the “Agreement on Scientific and Technological Cooperation in the field of Glacier Research” with Institute of Geography of Russian Academy of Science and the Faculty of Geography of Lomonosov Moscow State University.
The main contents of the agreement are researchers will cooperate in the application and international scientific research projects, jointly publish papers, carry out field scientific investigations, and organize academic workshops and international conferences in the areas of glaciers and ice sheets; snow compaction.
The Institute of Geography of Russian Academy of Science, founded in 1918, is the oldest and largest geographic, economic and physical research center in Russia. The Institute mainly carries out innovative research in the fields of the Evolution of Natural Environment and Surface Resources, Natural Cryogenic System, Dynamic Evolution of Cryosphere, Physical Geography and Environmental Protection, Geographic Information Technology and Surveying & Mapping, which forming profound academic accumulation and unique disciplinary characteristics. The current director is Professor O. N. Solomina, a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Lomonosov Moscow State University is the largest and oldest comprehensive institution of higher education in the Russian Federation, which has made brilliant achievements in Mathematics, Physics, Geology, Chemistry. It has cultivated 11 Nobel laureates, and about 300 academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Russian Academy of Education. The current director of the Department of Geography of Moscow State University is Professor S. A. Dobrolyubov, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
China and Russia are good neighbors and have a long history of friendship. In recent years, College of Construction Engineering has obtained a series of important achievements in Polar Science, and has extensive and in-depth cooperation with Russian research institutes. The signing of this agreement expands the cooperation partners of our college in the field of Polar Science Research, which is of great significance to improve the international visibility of our college’s polar research, to actively participate in international polar ice drilling research projects, and to strengthen international cooperation in the future. It also provides strong support for further enhancing the exchanges between teachers and students and promoting discipline construction.
