I. Cultivation Objectives
To cultivate high-quality inter-disciplinary talents with meeting the needs of socialist modernization and social and scientific development in future, integrating the harmonious development of Moral, Intellectual, Physical, Aesthetics and Labour education with healthy Personality, having Conscience and Social Responsibility, Innovative Consciousness, Practical Ability, and International Vision, having basic knowledge in Mathematics and Mechanics, mastering the basic theory in discipline of Civil Engineering, having the ability of engineering practice, innovation and international vision, and facing the future development needs of Civil Engineering.
After graduation, graduates can further their studies in related disciplines, or engage in planning, design, construction, scientific research, and management in various Civil Engineering fields such as architecture, roads, bridges, tunnels and geotechnics. After five years of practice in the field of Civil Engineering, the graduates of this program will achieve the quality and ability of engineers with professional technical knowledge, innovation ability, and scientific literacy, the ability to analyze, study and solve complex engineering problems in the field of Civil Engineering by using theory and advanced technical methods in Civil Engineering, and to be competent for scientific research, design, innovation and management positions.
II. Requirements for Professional Cultivation
The program pays attention to the cultivation of students’ comprehensive quality, and strives to cultivate students’ characteristics of solid foundation, strong specialty and high quality and the ability to analyze and solve problems. Meanwhile, it focuses on cultivating students’ humanities and professional ethics, so as to train students to be professional talents in the field of Civil Engineering and have potential to become compound and innovative elites. The students of this program mainly study the basic theories and knowledge of Mechanics, Civil Engineering, Projects and Economy, accept the basic training of Mechanics Analysis, Structure Design, Construction Technology & Project Management, and Expression by words and drawings, grasp the basic ability to engage in technical or management work in the departments of Prospecting, Design, Construction, Management, Education, Investment and Development in Civil Engineering Project.
Students in the program of Civil engineering are cultivated in four directions of Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Engineering, Road & Bridge Engineering and Tunnel & Underground Engineering. The graduates will meet the following requirements in terms of knowledge, ability and quality.
1. Engineering Knowledge.
The ability to analyze and solve complex problems in Civil Engineering by using mathematics, natural science, foundation and professional knowledge of engineering.
2. Problem Analysis.
The ability to apply the basic principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences to identify, express, and analyze complex Civil Engineering problems through literature research to obtain effective conclusions.
3. Design/Develop Problem-solving.
The ability to design solutions to complex Civil Engineering problems, design engineering structures, or construction processes that meet specific needs with reflecting the sense of innovation in the design process and taking the impact of social, health, safety, legal, cultural and environmental factors into account.
4. Research.
The ability to study complex Civil Engineering problems based on scientific principles and methods, including experimental design, analysis and interpretation of data, and the ability to get reasonable and effective conclusions through information synthesis.
5. Using of Modern Tools.
The ability to develop, select and use appropriate technologies, resources, modern tools of engineering and information technology for complex Civil Engineering problems, including prediction and simulation of complex engineering problems, and to understand their limitations.
6. Engineering and Society.
The ability to use the professional knowledge of engineering to reasonably analyze and evaluate the impact of solutions to complex engineering problems on society, health, safety, law, and culture, and to understand the responsibilities to be assumed.
7. Environment and Sustainable Development.
The ability to understand and evaluate the impact of engineering practice for complex engineering problems on the environment and sustainable development of society.
8. Professional Norms.
The quality of humanities and social sciences literacy, social responsibility and the ability to understand and to abide by engineering professional ethics and norms in engineering practice, and to fulfill responsibilities.
9. Individual and Team.
The ability to assume the roles of individual, team member and leader in a multidisciplinary group.
10. Communication.
The ability to effectively communicate with peers and the public on complex engineering problems, including writing reports and design manuscripts, making statements, expressing clearly or responding to instructions with international vision, and to communicate under intercultural background.
11. Project Management.
The ability to understand and master project management principles and economic decision-making methods, which can be applied in a multi-disciplinary environment
12. Lifelong Learning.
The awareness of self-learning and lifelong learning and the ability of continuous learning, adaptation to development, and the ability to timely understand the latest theory, technology and international frontier trends of Civil Engineering.
