I. Cultivation Objectives

To cultivate high-quality inter-disciplinary talents with meeting the needs of socialist modernization and social and scientific development in future, integrating the harmonious development of Moral, Intellectual, Physical, Aesthetics and Labour education with healthy Personality, having Conscience and Social Responsibility, Innovative Consciousness, Practical Ability, Cooperative Spirit and International Vision, having professional knowledge in Engineering Geology and Geotechnical Drilling Engineering, and having qualified professional ability in Engineering Geological Exploration, Geological Hazard Prevention and Geological Environment Protection, Geological Engineering Design and Construction, Resource Exploration and Development, Rock and Soil Drilling and Engineering Management in the fields of Urban Construction, Civil Engineering and Water Conservancy, Energy and Transportation and Resource Development and Land Disaster Prevention.

After more than five years of study and practice, graduates can achieve the following professional abilities:

1. The ability to independently complete engineering design, technical research and development, engineering organization and management in the field of Geological Engineering, and to solve complex engineering problems;

2. The ability to organize and manage engineering activities by taking legal, ethical, social, environmental and economic factors into account;

3. The ability of communication and coordination, and be able to participate in and lead the team through engineering projects;

4. The ability to expand international horizons, and have sustained professional competitiveness in Geological Engineering and related fields through lifelong learning.

II. Requirements for Professional Cultivation

The program pays attention to the cultivation of students comprehensive quality, and strives to cultivate studentscharacteristics of solid foundation, strong specialty and high quality and the ability to analyze and solve problems. Meanwhile, it focuses on cultivating students’ humanities and professional ethics, so as to train students to be professional talents in the field of Geological Engineering and have potential to become compound and innovative elites. The program of Geological Engineering has two directions on Prospecting Engineering and Engineering Geology.

The graduates will meet the following requirements in terms of knowledge, ability and quality:

1. Engineering Knowledge.

The ability to analyze and solve complex problems in Geological Engineering by using mathematics, natural science, foundation and professional knowledge of engineering.

2. Problem Analysis.

The ability to analyze the complex problems in Prospecting Engineering and Engineering Geology by using the basic principles of mathematics, geology, mechanics, mechanical engineering and engineering geology, and make accurate judgments.

3. Design/Develop Problem-solving.

The ability to propose innovative solutions to complex geotechnical problems by using basic geotechnical principles and methods by taking the impact of social, health, safety, legal, cultural and environmental factors into account.

4. Research.

The ability to study complex Geological Engineering problems based on scientific principles and methods, including experimental design, analysis and interpretation of data, and the ability to get reasonable and effective conclusions through information synthesis.

5. Using of Modern Tools.

The ability to develop, select and use appropriate technologies, resources, modern tools of engineering and information technology for complex Geological Engineering problems, including prediction and simulation of complex geological problems, and to understand their limitations.

6. Engineering and Society.

The ability to use the professional knowledge of Geological Engineering to reasonably analyze and evaluate the impact of solutions to complex engineering problems on society, health, safety, law, and culture, and to understand the responsibilities to be assumed.

7. Environment and Sustainable Development.

The ability to understand and evaluate the impact of engineering practice for complex Geological Engineering problems on the environment and sustainable development of society.

8. Professional Norms.

The quality of humanities and social sciences literacy, social responsibility and the ability to understand and to abide by engineering professional ethics and norms in engineering practice, and to fulfill responsibilities.

9. Individual and Team.

The ability to assume the roles of individual, team member and leader in a multidisciplinary group.

10. Communication.

The ability to effectively communicate with peers and the public on complex Geological Engineering problems with international vision, and to communicate under intercultural background.

11. Project Management.

The ability to understand and master project management principles and economic decision-making methods, which can be used for prospecting, design, construction and management on complex Geological Engineering projects.

12. Lifelong Learning.

The awareness of self-learning and lifelong learning and the ability of continuous learning, adaptation to development, and the ability to timely understand the latest theory, technology and international frontier trends of Geological Engineering.
