Voices of CCE – Readers:A Book-Sharing Session for Graduate Students Carried Out in the College of Construction Engineering

On October 28, the College of Construction Engineering (CCE) held a book-sharing session, ‘Voices of CCE– Readers’, for graduate students as an echo of ‘Peer Efforts for A Better Psychological Growth", a series of activities launched by Mental Health Guidance Center in 2020 for mental health knowledge popularization and sustainable mental health education publicity. The session was organized by Sun Jingbo, a graduate student counselor in CCE, with the huge support from Tang Haiyan, a faculty member of CCE Graduate School Office, and active participation of Yu Zhongyu along with other graduate students.

Ms. Tang Haiyan opened the session by introducing the purpose, significance and activities of the reading club to the students. By ‘one person for one section’, Class leader Yu Zhongyu and more than a dozen of other students have read aloud the highlights from A Biography of Su Dongpo, A Brief History of the Future, the Kite Chaser, A Murder Case in Mask Villa and other books with short personal interpretations. Among them, Ms. Tang affectionately recited Reading China by Azi, and encouraged all students to be optimistic, strong and fearless in both scientific research and future work as well as the significance of integrating youth into the Chinese dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Through reading, all students explored the long-lost human nature and mysteries in history, experienced the life emotions from the proses, and to feel the ups and downs of moving plots from the novels. As the General Secretary Xi Jinping once said, ‘Reading one excellent cultural book with a high gold content is better than reading a dozen of plain". Students then shared their feelings from their own study and life experiences and social practice, combined with the historical experience and their own ideological promotion and other aspects.

After the reading section, many students have expressed their appreciations for gaining a lot through this session: a freshman graduate student Pan Hongyu said, reading the masterpiece and the interpretation of history have broaden his own understanding. He also hoped that he could draw wisdom in those classics to enhance talents for make his own contribution for the future development of the nation and society.
