The 13th Five-Year Plan of China proposes to strengthen the strategic deployment in four fields: deep sea, deep earth, deep space and deep blue. General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out at the National Science and Technology Innovation Conference that "theoretically speaking, the available mineralized space inside the earth is distributed from the surface to 10,000 meters underground, and so far the exploration and mining depth of leading countries has been up to 2,500 meters to 4,000 meters, while in China the figure is usually less than 500 meters." Jiang Daming, Party Secretary and Minister of Land and Resources, pointed out that deep exploration of the earth is not only necessary in solving the major fundamental theoretical problems of geology, but also in ensuring the security of energy resources, expanding the space for economic and social development of the country.
Geophysical exploration is an important technical means of deep exploration, and the development of high-level geophysical exploration equipment is quite important for the development of China's mineral resources exploration and improvement of China's ability to participate in international resource competition. Recently, the LVIB-15 lightweight hydraulic servo vibroseis developed by our research team completed the third-party application demonstrative exploration in Songyuan, and the preliminary information shows that its exploration depth has reached 5 km. The LVIB-15 is the result of the research team headed by Prof. Zhang Xiaopei and Prof. Du Lizhi. They are working on the “Lightweight Hydraulic Servo Vibroseis" under the "Special Program of Deep Earth Resources Exploration & Exploitation”, one of the National Key R&D Programs of China during the 13th Five-year Plan. The lightweight hydraulic servo vibroseis adopts remote-controlled tracked self-propelled design, featuring strong off-road capability, compact design and deep exploration, which is the first of its kind at home and abroad.
Geophysical exploration has been included in the national "Science and Technology Innovation 2030-Major Project", which includes not only the exploration and production of mineral and energy resources in the deep part of the earth, but also the safe use of urban space, disaster mitigation and prevention, etc. Due to advanced design concept, LVIB-15 lightweight hydraulic servo vibroseis is suitable for use in mountainous areas, muddy and wet areas, narrow roads in villages, and other areas where large vibroseis cannot be used. It provides effective support for deep resource and seismic exploration in complex terrain. At the same time, due to the characteristics of compact size, energy saving and environmental protection, wide range of temperature resistance, and strong anti-slip cross-country capability, it is supportive for polar scientific research as is able to make large depth seismic exploration in polar ice cap area; it also has big potential of application and market prospect in the field of engineering seismic exploration, such as geological disaster investigation, disaster prevention and mitigation.
