In December 2021, the Ministry of Science and Technology announced the list of projects under the National Key Research and Development Program “Strategic Mineral Resources Development and Utilization”, and the project “Research and Development of Frontier Technology for Precision Exploration and Directional Drilling and Continuous Coring” applied by Associate Professor Ma Yinlong was approved.
The leading institution of the project is Jilin University, and the participating institutions are Xi’an Research Institute of China Coal Science and Technology Group Co., Ltd. and Institute of Exploration Technology of China Academy of Geological Sciences, with the funding of 5 million RMB approved by the central government.
The overall objective of the "Strategic Mineral Resources Development and Utilization" key project is to focus on national resource security and major strategic demands, target major scientific issues and technical problems in strategic mineral resources exploration and development and utilization, make theoretical breakthroughs in detailed exploration, green development, high-value utilization and intelligent integration of mineral resources, overcome a number of major key technologies and equipment, form a number of strategic mineral resources development and utilization demonstration bases, and provide scientific and technological support for building a high-quality resource security system.
The research team is composed of Jilin University, Exploration Technology Research Institute and China Coal Xi’an Research Institute, which brings together the most powerful universities, research institutes and enterprises in China in the fields of drilling technology and equipment, drilling trajectory control and drilling measurement, and digital simulation in core drilling, realizing the close integration of production, academia, research and application and complementary scientific research advantages. The project results will effectively improve the accuracy and exploration efficiency of resource exploration in China and promote the technological progress and industrial upgrading of related industries.
