The 2022 Academic Committee Meeting of the Key Laboratory of Drilling Technology for Complex Conditions of the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Report on the Results of the Construction Cycle were successfully held

On February 25th, 2023, the 2022 Academic Committee Meeting of Key Laboratory of Drilling Technology for Complex Conditions of Ministry of Natural Resources and the Report on the Results of Construction Cycle were successfully held in 325 Lecture Hall of Water Engineering Building of College of Construction Engineering, which was held mainly offline and supplemented by online.

Academician Su Yinao, Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, External Distinguished Professor of China National Petroleum Corporation and Jilin University, and Director of the Academic Committee of the Laboratory, Academician Lin Jun, Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and President of the Department of Geosciences, Jilin University, Academician Sun Youhong, Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, President of China University of Geosciences (Beijing), External Distinguished Professor and Director of the Laboratory of Jilin University, Academician Yanghua Wang, Member of the Royal Academy of Engineering and Life Professor of Imperial College, UK, Researcher Zhang Huixu, Vice Director of Key Laboratory Office of Ministry of Natural Resources, Professor Ye Jianliang, Vice Chief Engineer of China Geological Survey and Director of Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey, Professor Jiang Guosheng of China University of Geosciences (Wuhan), Professor Liu Sanyi of China Geological Survey, Professor Zhang Wei of China Geological Survey, Professor Liu Baolin of China University of Geosciences (Beijing), Professor Liu Yuejin of China Geological Equipment Group Corporation and other academicians Experts, Associate Professor Bai Wenxiang from Research Institute of Jilin University, Professor Xu Tianfu, President of College of New Energy and Environment of Jilin University, Professor Han Zhiwu, President of Key Laboratory of Ministry of Engineering Bionics of Jilin University, Professor JI Yanju, President of College of Instrument Science and Electrical Engineering of Jilin University, relevant leaders of College of Construction Engineering, main leaders of laboratories, academic leaders, academic backbone, teachers and postgraduates, etc. more than 100 people attended the the meeting.

The opening ceremony of the meeting was hosted by Professor Guo Wei, President of the College of Construction Engineering, and he welcomed all academicians and experts to support and guide the work of the laboratory in Changchun again after the epidemic, and thanked them for their long-term care and support for the development of the college and the construction of the laboratory. Researcher Zhang Huixu, Associate Professor Bai Wenxiang, Academician Lin Jun and Academician Sun Youhong delivered speeches on behalf of the Key Laboratory Office of the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Research Institute of Jilin University, the Department of Geosciences of Jilin University and the Key Laboratory, respectively.

The academic committee meeting was chaired by Academician Su Yinao. Firstly, Professor Guo Wei, on behalf of the laboratory, made a report on the achievements of the construction cycle of the laboratory, reporting to the Academic Committee on the achievements of the current construction cycle from four aspects: research level and contribution, personnel training and team building, open communication, and operation and management, and reported the next development of the laboratory “six insistence”, namely, adhere to the four oriented, focus on the major needs of the country and national major special projects; insist on the research direction, strengthen the peak top research direction; stick to the talent-based, focus on training and introduction of young and middle-aged academic backbone; uphold the application of results, strengthen the transformation of patent results on the ground; persist in discipline. He also reported the main work plan of the laboratory in 2023. The academic committee and the participating experts highly appreciated the achievements of the laboratory in high-level research and talent building, fully affirmed the five research directions of the laboratory, and made suggestions on the next work priorities, goals and tasks of the laboratory. The meeting also discussed the design of the lab logo. The five research directions of the laboratory also reported the main scientific and technological achievements in 2022 through the form of academic reports.

The Key Laboratory of Drilling Technology for Complex Conditions of the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) was constructed by Jilin University, which was approved in 2012, passed the acceptance in 2015 and was awarded as an excellent key laboratory of MNR in 2018. This construction cycle last four years from 2019 to 2022, and a large number of breakthrough innovations have been achieved. For example, “The key technology and application of top-driven precise pressure-controlled scientific drilling equipment” won the second prize of the National Technology Invention Award, self-developed China’s first 10,000-meter drilling rig “Crust I” for scientific drilling, and completed four oil and gas drilling projects in the Tarim Basin of Xinjiang with a completion depth of over 8,000m. Moreover, we have developed key technologies and equipment for drilling and sampling polar ice and subglacial geological bodies, which have been successfully applied in Antarctic sites; overcome a series of key technologies for in-situ conversion of medium-deep oil shale, and successfully extracted the first barrel of medium-deep oil shale oil in-situ in China; developed bionic coupling drill bits and bionic self-balancing adaptive drilling system and supporting equipment, and developed large-diameter reverse circulation submersible hammer and follow pipe drilling technology and equipment for geological disaster management.

The laboratory will closely focus on national major needs such as deep earth exploration, polar climate and environment, unconventional energy and mineral exploitation, and conduct research on drilling technology and equipment for high temperature and high pressure underground conditions, low temperature and low pressure surface conditions, as well as complex conditions such as low grade and low reservoir formation, and strive to become a national strategic scientific and technological force in the field of geological resources and geological engineering in China, and contribute to the discipline construction of Jilin University.
