College of Construction Engineering Successfully Hosts the 2023 National Excellent University Students Summer Camp

    From July 4 to July 6, 2023, the College of Construction Engineering at Jilin University successfully organized the 2023 National Excellent University Students Summer Camp. This event aimed to enhance communication among outstanding university students nationwide, deepen their understanding of the college's discipline development and graduate recruitment programs, showcase the college's unique strengths, and stimulate students' interest in studying and researching related fields at our college. The camp coincided with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the School of Earth Sciences at Jilin University and was attended by 128 students from 65 universities across the country.

    

    On July 4, the camp participants registered online, confirming their participation in the summer camp at the College of Construction Engineering.

    

    The opening ceremony commenced at 9:00 AM on July 5, led by Professor Wang Boxin, Vice Dean of the College of Construction Engineering, who delivered a special report. He warmly welcomed and thanked all the participants, introducing the overall situation of Jilin University and the College of Construction Engineering. He showcased the college’s discipline construction and development prospects, faculty composition and talent cultivation, graduate education and training, scientific research and major achievements, international exchanges and collaborative education, as well as the learning atmosphere and academic integrity at the college.

            Teacher Wang Huidi, Director of the Graduate Management Office, and Teacher Tang Haiyan, Graduate Secretary, engaged in in-depth discussions with the participants regarding topics such as direct admissions, admissions applications, studies, scholarships, student activities, research achievement recognition, graduation defences, employment, and pursuing doctoral degrees, fostering a lively online discussion atmosphere.


            On the afternoon of July 5, the college held academic forums for Geological Engineering and Civil Engineering. Eight expert professors from our college delivered excellent academic reports to the participants and engaged in heated discussions online, helping the students gain a deeper understanding of each major and insights into the research areas and prospects.

Civil Engineering Academic Forum:

1. Recent Advances in Geotechnical Engineering and Introduction to the Geotechnical Engineering Department

2. Recent Advances in Structural Engineering and Introduction to the Architectural Engineering Department 

  Presenter: Associate Professor Hu Zhongjun  

    3. Recent Advances in Tunnel and Underground Engineering and Introduction to the Underground Engineering Department

4. Recent Advances in Road and Bridge Engineering and Introduction to the Road and Bridge Engineering Department

  Presenter: Professor Dai Wenting  

            On the morning of July 6, the college hosted an online exchange meeting between mentors and participants. Based on the preliminary statistics of the participants' interests in research advisors, the Graduate Management Office established a one-on-one communication bridge between the students and their mentors.


            The closing ceremony took place on the afternoon of July 6, where Professor Wang Boxin announced the list of outstanding participants and once again welcomed excellent students from across the country to apply to the College of Construction Engineering at Jilin University.


            

                Representatives from the excellent participants, Wu Ziyan from China University of Geosciences (Beijing) and Zhang Yan from Jiamusi University, shared their experiences of participating in the summer camp. Both students expressed that through their involvement in the camp, they experienced the teaching style of the College of Construction Engineering's faculty, recognized the excellent faculty strength, appreciated the extensive coverage of disciplines, and noted the education model that emphasizes ability cultivation. They expressed a strong desire to become graduate students at Jilin University's College of Construction Engineering.














            Finally, Dean Guo Wei delivered a speech. He stated that the College of Construction Engineering has nationally recognized "Double First-Class" disciplines and boasts first-class research facilities and scientific instruments, as well as a dedicated and student-centered teaching staff that effectively guides students in their growth and development. Dean Guo made three expectations for the students: first, to fully embody the spirit of "patriotism, practicality, and unity" in their studies and lives; second, to align their personal development with the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation; and third, to focus on the development and integration of disciplines, always standing at the forefront of technology to lead the advancement of their fields. In closing, Dean Guo wished all participants continued success in their future studies and lives.


   

    After the closing ceremony, the college issued electronic certificates to the outstanding participants and mailed a customized commemorative gift from the college to each of them.

    

    The successful hosting of the 2023 National Excellent University Students Summer Camp by the College of Construction Engineering enhanced the understanding of outstanding university students nationwide regarding the college and further expanded its visibility and influence. This event showcased the college's strengths and laid a solid foundation for the graduate recruitment efforts in 2024.
